Hearing Aids - Maintenance & Care
-
Keep the
hearing aids as dry as possible. Remove them before going for
a swim or taking a shower.
-
Store the
hearing aids in a hearing aid dehumidifier every night. Be
sure to remove the battery first.
-
When you
are not using the hearing aids, keep the battery doors open
to maximize battery life.
-
Remember
that the battery starts to drain as soon as the seal has been
removed. Putting the seal back on the battery will not slow
down the battery drain. Only remove a battery seal when you
are going to use the battery in the hearing aid.
-
Batteries
are poisonous. Keep them and the hearing aids away from small
children and house pets. Always change batteries over a table
to avoid losing them on the floor.
-
Always have
a spare new battery with you.
-
Clean your
hearing aid daily using the brush and wax pick as demonstrated
by our consultant.
-
If you have
a behind-the-ear hearing aid and want to wash the earmold, disconnect
it from the hearing aid before doing so. Use warm, clean water.
Do not use alcohol. Make sure the earmold is completely dry
before reconnecting it to the hearing aid. A pipe cleaner can
help clean and dry the tubing.
-
If you
have an in-the-ear hearing aid, please only use a dry cloth
or a
facial tissue to wipe away any wax from the shell. You may
purchase Clean-aid, but use it sparingly. This disinfectant
and antibacterial spray helps reduce itching and skin irritation.
-
Wax build
up in your ear canals can cause feedback and malfunction of
your hearing aids. Have your family doctor check for wax and
remove it at
your regular medical appointments.
-
Remove hearing
aid before using hair dryers and hairspray.
